Stormy Weather
Archeological sites date back 12000 years. Early European settlement depended on
the Lake for transportation: the rocky shoals off the southern shore resulted in the
"graveyard of Lake Ontario": more sunken ships than Fathom Five National Marine
Park near Tobermory.

Some 500 Loyalist settlers arrived, mainly at Prinyers Cove, in 1784 and began
to clear the land and grow crops: settlement grew along to Picton and across to
Wellington
Reynolds moved his new bride Nance Waite into the house in 1792.

The isolation required all goods be produced locally:
factories produced wagons, ploughs, harness,
stoves, clothing, etc..
