Artist's statement My approach to watercolour is somewhat more controlled than more traditional work in the medium. Less wet on wet technique is used and deep colours are achieved by applying multiple layers of transparent washes. I am looking for a sense of realism with textures and contrasts. The subjects I choose are, for the most part, from the countryside and are often old buildings and other objects that may disappear with time. My paintings are a form of preservation and I hope they evoke pleasant memories. This is a watercolour of what once was the magnificent home of Fanny Chadwick on Howland Avenue in Toronto.
