Meet
the Quiltmaker
Greta
Kristiansen-Jacobs
Born
and raised in Denmark and immigrated to Canada in1951. Greta's formal
training is finance and her quilting career began after retirement
when she moved to Picton in 1990. After taking several classes from
various renowned quilt artists, she soon began designing her own
quilts and opened a studio, 'Gretony Quilts' in Picton where she
conducts workshops and retreats. She has developed her own patterns
which are available in quilt stores, on the internet and at her
studio.
Greta is an
enthusiastic and accomplished quilt maker with a passion for fabric
and she has an extensive collection of colourful and unusual fabric,
which she uses as a painter's palette in her designs and her quilts
use anywhere from 50-250 plus different fabrics. Her style is an
interesting reflection of her use of many fabrics, her love of geometric
shapes and her fascination with the elegant antique quilts of the
mid- 18th century with their overall designs and intricate patterns,
in particular the New York Beauty pattern. These factors, combined
with a sophisticated Scandinavian flair and a strong colour sense,
give her work a very distinct look.
