Fishing Report
November 9, 2011

Catch of the Day
Walleye = Poor
Pike = Fair
Perch = Excellent
Bass = ???

Details:  There have only been a few groups in fishing the last couple weeks, so I can’t say that I have much to report.  We had one group here on Oct 28 & 29 and did the majority of their fishing around at Thompson’s Point.  This group caught only a sheephead over their two days of hard angling.  They reported seeing several boats angling in the their location but did not see any fish caught.

A group in this past weekend concentrated mainly on the telegraph narrows and long reach.  They fished hard for 2 days and had great weather but did not catch a walleye.  They did leave with a cooler full of perch and a really nice 7 ½ pound pike.  Another pike that was lost under the boat.

Reports on the forums and chat rooms seem to all be telling the same tale … that the walleye just aren’t in yet this year.  We are having a late fall and the weather has been milder than normal  … so this could be playing a factor to the walleye’s late arrival.  What stumps me is where are the resident walleye???  When all summer we had nice eating class walleye being caught they too seem have gotten lock jaw.  Sorry folks … wish I had better news to report but I tell it like I hear it!

Water levels continue to drop and are getting close to their lowest point.  We are still able to launch boats but motors need to be well trimmed around the docks.  The campground will remain open for campers and anglers for at least a couple more weeks but the water at the campsites will be shut off this week.  Anyone wishing to launch, camp, rent boats, or accommodations is requested to call before they come to get the latest conditions.

As soon as we hear of Walleye being caught, I will be updating this report immediately!

October 18, 2011

DETAILS:  We have lost our nice warm weather we enjoyed during most of September and October. Wet, rainy and cool temps have prevailed the past week. Those hardies in for some fall fishing have not had luck with walleye, but have snagged some nice Smallmouth bass and Pike. The bigger walleye have still not seemed to have moved back into the bay yet. There were rumours of walleye being caught off of Thompson's Point a couple weeks ago which sent a number of anglers there but they all returned with empty live wells and no walleye being caught. Most anglers are reporting marking bigger fish on the fish finders but nothing seems to be biting to even know if they are walleye or not. As soon as we hear of walleye being caught we will be posting it!!

Water level has lowered as it always does in the latter portion of the season. We are still able to get boats in and out with care and trimming up. The buoys remain in to help guide you in and out of the ramp. This past few days has seen a bit of improvenment in the water level.

We plan to stay open as late this fall as possible, ice, weather conditions and water levels permitting. This will give those wanting to get in some late fall fishing a chance to snag some bigger walleye (we hope). Camp sites, trailers and boats are still available. We also have the 3 bedroom suite which is now available year round. Campsite water will be on until +/- October 31. If you are planning to come fall fishing please contact us at 613-476-7290 or 613-476-7838 to get the most up to date conditions prior to making your trip. Our present hours of operation are 7:30 AM until 4:00 PM. If you need a campsite or our services outside of these hours we will be happy to accommodate you provided we have prior notice of your arrival.

Reservations for 2012 will begin on January 1st, 2012.

It has been a great season for the walleye. The water level has remained good. We had a good level to start the year. Hopefully it will stay so fall fishing can continue.

While it may take a little longer to snag your walleye the fish are still out there.  Murray and Co. were here on the weekend, Lorette caught a nice 4lb walleye. Murray?!!!!!well we won't talk about that. Enjoyed meeting Alain and his wife who caught a nice bass but let it go. Check out the photo link for proof of purchase :)

Tim and friend got some smaller walleye. Gary and his wife caught some white fish. The McCracken's arrived on Tuesday. Their  skill held true today when they produced came a nice catch of walleye between 1and 2lbs.

Have enjoyed having the Rousette family with us for the week. They have caught alot of perch and finally today brought in their first walleye. Hopefully they have broken the code and the rest of their stay will
prove successful for catching the walleye.

Plenty of site and trailers available. Come to fish, camp or simply enjoy a quiet friendly family experience along the picturesque Bay of Quinte; with photo ops for great sunrise and sets.Or catch a glimpse of our resident Swan family, with their second brood of five.

                       Bass                Good
                       Perch  (jumbo)  Fair
                       Sheephead       Good

DETAILS:    We had a great group of campers and fishermen here over the Civic long week-end. All did well out on the water.

 Water level has dropped significantly since the high at the end of June. It has an adverse effect on boating and fishing as fish have to find new feeding and safe areas in their habitat. Water levels remain good for launching and removal of boats due to the excellent levels we had in the early part of the season.

Walleye continue to be hooked . We welcome Gilles back for his 3rd trip this season and enjoyed meeting hie fishing friend Colin. They found a nice one and a half pounder plus they were treated to a nice four pounder from one of our rental boat customers. They also caught a nice variety of other fish.

We are hearing of some good bass catches and lots of sheephead, which can give a good fight. Remember the best meat out of the backs of the sheepherd can produce a good feed of poor men's shrimp.

Weather has been good for most of the latter part of July; with some hot days in early August. Today is cooler and overcast, good for fishing.

Have noticed the length of the day is shortening. Seems to come too quickly after July. Still plenty of time to book for some late summer camping and fall fishing.

A reminder to these booking a fishing trip to the area that we carry a full line of Tackle which works well in the Quinte waters. Thanks to Colin for the tip!  We have a large selection of colours for worm harnesses and Walleye Wonder along with Eriedearies and Rapala favourites; with competetive prices.

 A reminder also that a boat operator card is now required to rent one of our rental boats. Hours of boat rental are from 7a.m. to 7p.m. Please call ahead to ensure that your boat if available and ready for take off. A valid credit card required.

For ladies if you would enjoy a day away from fishing there is a whole host of things to do in the County and surrounding area. Great boutique and antique shopping Artisans and local artist abound with many local wineries and some of the best restaurants in Ontario. Several local theatre groups put on local performances with great local talent along with outside entertainers as well.

And we mustn't forget the famous Sandbanks Provincial Park, and all the local Conservation areas.

                               Bass:            Good

                               Sheephead:    Large, Big Ones

Details:
  Some great summer weather the past few weeks, with very hot days and muggy evenings relief in most evenings of cool temps. A nice rain fell  early in the week and greened the grass and provided  much needed moisture for the farm crops.

Murray and Lorette have had great luck the past  few week-ends . Ruth and Rick did exceptionally well during their holiday ( when they weren't chasing the geese. :) Brendon and Dave were able to show their friend how to catch the bigs one in the Bay of Quinte. They also found they did not have to be there early or late. Their best catch was in the middle of the day. A nice seven pounder, (see photo link for a great shot) returned to the water to reproduce for the next generations.

Water level is good. Down 8" from our high this spring. Easy to get launched and out to the good fishing spots.

Long week-end weather  forecasts are good. Looks like a repeat of the July 1st. Shaping up to be a good summer weather wise. Sites always available. We now have 15 and 30 amp sites with great views of the water and evening sunsets.

Lures
                         No special ones reported
                         Worm harness still appear to be popular with bottom bouncers, followed by the Erie Dearie and Walleye Wonders.  Shad Raps and Wally Divers appear to be the third choice.

Catch of the Day

                         Walleye:           Fair to Good
                          Pike:                Fair
                          Bass:               Very Good
                          Perch:              Good ( smaller in size)

Details:

Hard to believe we are into the third week of July. Weather this week has been good. Mostly cool nights with warm sunny days. Water level in the bay has remained fairly consistent. but has dropped aproximately 8 inches since last monhs high level. We are hopeful this level will be maintained during the course of the season. as it makes boating lauching and docking much easier.

Fishing through the week was slow to fair, as anglers had to work for anything that was caught.  Sunday Morning (July 10) saw things turn around and anglers started having much better success with almost all groups fishing here bringing in walleye or bass or both.  There was a 3 1/2 pound bass brought in on Sunday morning ...NICE! . Pike had been very good but slowed this week ... not sure if they were not biting or if Anglers just weren't targeting them?

The Neilson's group first visit was a success. Good weather and good fishing (at least on Sunday). Enjoyed having the Sheffield  in over the week-end with Frank's group joining them. They all caught fish and had some R.& R.

A BOAT OPERATOR'S Card will now be required  to operate one of our rental boats. This can be done on line at www.boatersexam.com.
We have 14' aluminum fishing boats that will accommodate up to three people comfortably.

VACATION Suite:   Three bedrooms: full three piece bath: full kitchen with counter top stove, wall oven a double sink and two door fridge. Your own deck area and full access to waterfront and campground facilities. Available year round.

TRAILER RENTALS: Are equipped with fridge, stove, electricity, running water, dishes pots and pans cooking utensils, coffee pot and toaster: with a picnic table and firepot . You may bring your own BBQ. We have grates available for your use if you wish to cook over the openfire.

Many campfires were enjoyed throughout the evening hours with roasted marshmallow and Ho Bo pies. Chester and his group had some nice catches to take home as did Allan and his co.                  Pike:               Fair

                 Sheephead:     Fair

                 Perch:             Many Nuisance

Details.  Where is all the water going?!!!  The level has dropped at least 8 inches this week. Much too early  in the season for this to happen, especially with the great spring run-off. It has proven to be the best (most consistent) fishing we have seen in several years.

This past week has been very good for the anglers on the water. Lots of action and many success stories. Many catching their limit. The most reported sizes are 2 to 4 lbs.  Weather has been specatcular the past few days. Cool evenings and warm almost hot sunny days.  A system of unsettled weather moving through the region for the end of the week. Hopefully the week-end will be better.

The campground has dried up nicely after so much rain in May. It has left a plush green lawn.

Another reminder that a boat operators card is now necessary  for boat rentals.

We have boats, trailers and sites available for your fishing holiday or some R & R.

DETAILS:    A fourth great week of early season fishing. The rainy day forcast for the week end did not deter the determined angler. And they were right. The weather turned out warm and sunny for most of the time. They were also rewarded with some great catches. Kim and co. did so very well and left with huge smiles on their faces dispite having lost some personal belonging  to the  Quinte waters. Also alittle bad luck The their motor.   Lots of rain during the week was not fun for many here.

Mother Nature has turned her course hopefully. As  I was awakened this morning  to the cheerful chirping to the day of our numerous resident fine feathered friends . The call of the loon and the honking of the resident geese showing off their new broods.I am always amazed at Nature's splendor. The cascading floral tribute of the Spirare Bushes which adorn the campground, the snowball bushes are bursting into bloom and after so much moisture the deep green of the grasses create a beautiful carpet .Being patient with Mother Nature, we are rewarded with her gentle side.

I believe I caught most sportsmen attention with the reported 28 lb walleye in the last fishing report.  This was not intentional. It should read 28 and !/2 " walleye. It did weigh 7 and 1/2 lbs. The picture should be on our photo link shortly.

The weatherman is reporting a nice stretch of good weather. Hope everyone can get out and soak up some much needed vitamin D.

Water levels have returned to near normal for this time of year. No issues with getting boats in and out of the water.

Details:  Less than two weeks remaining to the opening of the Walleye Season on the Bay of Quinte. Its shaping up to be a busy season. Everyone appears anxious to get outdoors and put their line in the water. The campground is getting ready for the opener. Trailers are being checked and ready to be put on sites. Picnic tables and fire pits are being placed at your site. Boat motors are checked and ready for first launch.

Unlike last year, water levels are much better. This means launching your boat will be much easier. The spawn appears to be well over which should mean some hungry big ones.

Some reminders for your first camping and fishing of the season. Check the long range forecast for the area. There was one opener when it was very hot and sunny and many had bad sunburns. Put in your sunscreen just in case.In the event the weather is cool in the evening and early morning, bring along a small propane camping heater to take off the chill. The food trailer will be open for your morning coffee and a Fishermen's Breakfast special on your return from that early morning fish.

Details:  It is March 15th, just six weeks away from the Walleye Opener. Again this year we are pleased to be hosting the Kiwanis weigh in station for their annual Derby. With an abundance of snow and rain we look forward to normal or above water levels. With the opening of Walleye being as late as it can be May 7,the spawn should be over and we hope the Walleye will be hungry.

Talked with many during ice fishing this past winter. Most had good luck.

Thanks to all who have called and booked their site or trailer for the opener; we still have sites, trailers and boats available with plenty of room to launch and dock your boats.

You might wish to rent the  two and or three bedroom rental suite available for those not yet into camping this early in the season.

 Looking forward to seeing new and familiar faces.
